The Trump White House is known for spinning just about any story in its favor—but when it comes to the latest bombshell about Elon Musk’s drug use, things have been oddly quiet.
According to a stunning report from The New York Times, Musk was reportedly using a range of drugs—including ketamine, Adderall, and ecstasy—while serving as an unofficial adviser to former President Donald Trump. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the White House has declined to answer questions about whether Musk was ever drug tested during that time.
Reporter Megan Twohey, who co-authored the piece, appeared on MSNBC to break it down. She noted that SpaceX—Musk’s aerospace company and a major government contractor—also refused to comment on whether Musk was given advance notice of the company’s so-called “random” drug tests. That’s important, because federal rules require contractors like SpaceX to maintain a drug-free workplace.
As Twohey pointed out, this silence—both from the White House and SpaceX—suggests there’s been little to no real oversight or accountability when it comes to Musk’s drug use, even as it reportedly became increasingly hard to ignore.
During the interview, Twohey also explained the effects of ketamine, which Musk claims he uses to treat depression. While the drug has legitimate medical uses, including for anesthesia and psychiatric treatment, it’s also popular recreationally in tech circles. Chronic use, she said, can lead to serious bladder problems—something the FDA has warned about.
The Times also reported that Musk was seen carrying a box of narcotics during Trump’s campaign events, including Adderall, a powerful stimulant used for ADHD. In addition to Adderall and ketamine, Musk allegedly took ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms at private parties both in the U.S. and abroad. By the time he publicly endorsed Trump for president, Musk was reportedly using ketamine on a daily basis.
